NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN is the first exhibition in the brand new Amsterdam art gallery De Donkere Kamer (The Darkroom). Laura Schuster and I will be showing work based on puzzles.
Opening festivities from 2:00 on both the 26th and 27th of August featuring live acoustic music performances and more! De Donkere Kamer (Amstelpark 6) is located between Glazen Huis and Rietveld Paviljoen, item 38 (Giro Paviljoen) on the Amstelpark map. The show will go on until late September.

Expo at madelife in Boulder
This will be a fun one I'm doing with the three other winners of the madelife juried exhibition back in January. At the opening there'll be live music (including a short set by my music project Dusty Stray), plus good eats and drinks. And each artist is making a site-specific installation.
Winner of Juried Exhibition at madelife
I was honored to be one of four winners of the juried exhibition at madelife in Boulder, Colorado. Jurors included curators at BMoCA (Boulder Museum Of Contemporary Art) and the Dairy Arts Center Gallery, Boulder. I was awarded a group show with the other winners at madelife in May. The present exhibition at madelife is up until January 28.
Pirate Contemporary Art Gallery Juried Exhibition
My recent piece "Shroud" is featured in the juried exhibition at Pirate Gallery in Denver from Nov. 26 -- Dec. 11. Works selected by Dean Sobel, director of the Clyfford Still Museum, Denver.

Well, it'll actually be more than a gallery show. I plan to have some new collages hanging, but also super-8 slides (slides made from bits of super-8 film), live super-8 projection collages and I'll even throw in a live solo set as my musical moniker Dusty Stray. Plus all kinds of other live music going on that evening too.

In the MACBA
Some of my short films are being shown in an exhibit at the MACBA (Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona)! They're on one of many screens in an exhibition called "Are You Ready For TV?". Show ends April 25, 2011.

AWA Gallery / Beehive Project R.I.P.
Well, after more than two years of weekly exhibits, performances, parties and fun in general the AWA Gallery has passed on. No more boxes. However, I'm told it has at least passed on to an entirely different format, so stay tuned. The pic above is a detail of one of my final pieces there.
The entire AWA Gallery (Beehive Experiment) temporarily moves to Rotterdam for the Route Du Nord Festival!
Yep, the organizers of the festival are coming to Amsterdam in a big truck to load up all 32 60cm x 60cm wooden boxes and then will set up the whole thing in Rotterdam. Hopefully, it'll be a sort of "best of" from the artists who display a piece in their box every two weeks. My box (shown above) will be there!

I've got some 8mm "sculptures" on display at DELICATESSEN ZEEBURG, Sumatrastraat 32, Amsterdam.
I made them especially for this installation.
They'll be there until the end of October more or less.

LOS SUPEROCHEROS at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht September 25!!!
LOS SUPEROCHEROS (loosely translated as "the Super 8 Guys") is my Super 8 performance I do with Danny Perrilat. We basically play around with 10+ Super 8 projectors and make some live music at the same time. For this show we even have a special guest go-go dancer! Installation and short films on display at 'T HOOGT in Utrecht until September 22
Supposedly 'T HOOGT is the oldest "art" cinema in the Netherlands. If you happen to be in Utrecht before September 22, drop by the cafe/restaurant 'T HOOGT (connected to the cinema) and check out my Super 8 found footage films as well as a wall installation I made out of reels of old, boring Super 8 home movies. Re:visie onderzoekt het grensgebied tussen film en de andere kunsten in Nederland.
Zij presenteert jaarlijks een programma in samenwerking met het Nederlands Film Festival.
Tijdens het Nederlands Film Festival (23 september t/m 2 oktober 2009) neemt Re:visie met de titel “Dear Cinema,…” de vorm aan van een persoonlijke reactie op de traditionele cinema. Een avontuurlijk programma waarin old school apparaten als de overhead projector en Super8 projectoren hand in hand gaan met abstracte computerkunst en interactieve installaties. In verschillende filmprogramma's, live performances en een expositie wordt werk vertoond van o.a. Julika Rudelius, Yael Bartana, Arjen de Leeuw, Noud Heerkens, Daya Cahen, Klaske Oenema en Jonathan Brown. Martijn van Boven begeleidt een workshop Live Cinema en fotograaf/filmmaker Erwin Olaf presenteert een filmprogramma met eigen werk en inspiratiebronnen.
Vooruitlopend op het festivalprogramma presenteert Re:visie vanaf 28 augustus in de expositieruimte van ’t Hoogt hedendaags audiovisueel werk van eigen bodem: video-installaties en beeldend werk van Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, Jonathan Brown en Daya Cahen. Beeldend kunstenaar Kwaish Alfraji presenteert onder de titel A Cup Of Coffee With Kafka drie recente video-installaties en digitale prints op canvas. Multimediakunstenaar Jonathan Brown presenteert beeldend werk en filmloops uit de wonderlijke found footage verzameling van zijn muzikale Super8 collectief Los Superocheros (ism Daniel Perrilat). Daya Cahen presenteert in de expositieruimte van ‘t Hoogt tekst- en beeldmateriaal uit haar project Nashi. Voor Nashi (’De Onzen’) trok Cahen binnen in Vladimir Poetin’s jongerenbeweging en documenteerde een krachtig audiovisueel portret van zowel het individu als de massa. Cahen (1969) werkt als fotograaf en videokunstenaar en onderzoekt in haar werk vormen van propaganda en (media-) manipulatie.
